Protect Water Quality with Tailored Treatment Programs

A growing challenge in the oil and gas industry is salt water disposal from various oil and gas operations. The increasing volume of water, along with increasing regulations, has made the salt water disposal process significantly more important.

We have years of experience effectively treating saltwater disposal systems. We have fine-tuned our process to:

Conduct a thorough system survey
Design a program based on identified and potential problems
Implement programs based on agreed expectations
Adjust programs based on monitoring results

While this is a common process in the water quality industry, our dedication to customer service coupled with this approach sets us apart and creates optimal results for our customers.

Water Analysis

One of the primary uses of water analysis is to predict the formation of mineral scales and to determine the corrosive properties of the water.

That’s why all our reviews include water analyses to determine the scaling and corrosive tendencies of the water.

We test for mineral scales by analyzing different ionic species and inputting the data into a computer model.

Our models are based on the Stiff and Davis index for calcium carbonate and the Stiff, McDonald, and Sceelman model for sulfate scales.

Both models have been successfully used in the oil industry for years. However, we can also accommodate other models if preferred.

When testing for corrosive properties in water, we test the levels of dissolved minerals, known as the Total Dissolved Solids number. If the TDS is high, it’s likely the water has corrosive properties.

Scale Inhibition

One of the most difficult parts of treating disposal water is changing the mineral content of the water. This variation of water characteristics makes it difficult to properly treat these types of systems.

While other places may have limited scaling potential, we work with you to implement a tailored scale inhibitor program.

We closely monitor for calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and barium sulfate using water analysis and analysis of materials found during operations.

If we find something, we offer a full line of scale inhibitor products to address each location with an individual treatment program, if needed.

SRB & APB Bacteria Enumeration

Certain types of bacteria cause problems if they reach certain levels, namely sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and acid-producing bacteria (APB).

When levels of these bacteria get too high, their corrosion rate needs to be addressed.

We test for these bacteria using a serial dilution method with a unique formulation, which is modified to simulate the ionic strength of the water and insert unique nutrients that influence bacteria to function in their non-natural environment.

If our tests reveal there are high levels of bacteria in a near-treatable range, we work with you to implement a biocide program to treat it.

Suspended Oil & Solids

The suspended oil level is one of the most critical evaluations in determining water quality.

If there is a high level of suspended oil, it can cause problems with injection water, the most severe problem being plugging the formation face.

Our water quality evaluation includes a total suspended solids test to measure the amount and type of solids suspended in the water.

Based on our findings, we will provide chemical solutions to prolong the effectiveness of your waterflood or disposal system.
